I am a charter member (1979) of the Houston Calligraphy Guild, having served as Vice President (2 different years), President (2 years), Membership Chair and Newsletter Editor (re-occuring years), along with chairing numerous functions during the Guild's first 20 years of existence.

I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico for 6 years, where I was active in Escribiente, the Albuquerque Calligraphy Society, serving as Newsletter Editor and Membership Chair; I returned to the Houston area in 2005. I have been professionally involved in the lettering arts since the late 1970s, both in commission work and in teaching. Having studied both historical and modern letterforms with nationally and internationally known calligraphers, I have received a solid background and springboard from which to explore both variations and modern adaptations in my work.

For over 30 years I have studied locally and throughout the United States, learning and refining techniques which help facilitate my work. Participation in several calligraphic study groups over the years has been an excellent way to continue to stretch my hand and mind.

I relish the challenges of designing a piece of calligraphy to fit the particular commission. For the past few years I have incorporated calligraphy in the ever-growing popular bookarts, designing books, teaching book structures and design, and using my marbled papers and paste grain papers in my art. This has led me to book repair and restoration, using archival materials. Calligraphy wouldn't have had the various revivals over the centuries without the book structures from early times. I see the marriage of the two artforms a natural and will enjoy exploring both aspects of the art in the future.
